Best Spots on Meredith’s Campus

We say it time and time again here on the admissions blog: the best way to get to know Meredith is to visit campus in person. And the best times to visit are in the fall and spring, when the weather is nice and the campus looks beautiful. With fall right around the corner, be sure to add these spots to your list of places to visit when you come to campus!

Ashlyn Elliott, ’22, shares the third floor Vann parlor as her favorite place on campus.

“Every night my friends and I would meet in the parlor to socialize, study, and spend quality time together; this truly made Vann Hall feel like home. This picture of Kenzie Cameron and me was taken on the balcony of the parlor on the snow day we had this year.”

Professor of English Kelly Morris Roberts, ’91, nominates McIver Amphitheater as one of the best spots at Meredith.

“Memories of a breathtaking space. Just look! Many a book has been read on the grassy seats right beyond here.”

Marissa Thomas, ’21, shares that her favorite spot is Beam Fountain in front of Johnson Hall.

“Johnson Hall and the fountain in front of it are so special to me because it is the first thing you see when entering Meredith. They are a symbol of Meredith College. On a normal day the fountain is calming but during Meredith’s traditions such as Ring Dinner and Cornhuskin’ it is filled with many of my sweet Meredith sisters. It looks so grand and this was the perfect place to take pictures for a special night in a special place.”

Associate Professor of Geoscience Matthew Stutz shares a photo from Spring 2015 of the Meredith Forest.

“The Meredith Forest has a gently flowing stream that cascades over these rocks forming our own small but peaceful and beautiful waterfall. A great escape from the hustle and bustle of campus. And a perfect place to teach earth science labs!”

Madisyn Clark, ’22, says her favorite spot on campus is the tunnel.

“One of my favorite spots on campus is the tunnel leading to President Jo Allen’s house. Every year the senior class paints this tunnel and reveals their work during the President’s Raid during Corn week. I love being able to see all of the different designs capturing their four years at Meredith. This year was extra special as we saw our Big Sis class’s hard work pay off and enjoyed special notes from them. This Little Sis class is sending lots of love to our Big Sis class during this time!”

Associate Professor of Communication Carla Ross shares a favorite place that has a connection to a class exercise.

“Every year the forgiveness class has a ‘let it go’ burning of letters in the Meredith garden. For this reason, the Meredith garden is a very special place to us!”

Associate Professor of History Angela Robbins says her favorite spot is the free expression boards.

“The Free Expression Boards are one of my favorite places on campus because of Speak Out!, an event that allows students, faculty, and staff to share speeches, letters, poems, and more from historical figures they admire.”

Assistant Director of International Programs Traci Stewart Johnson is most fond of the community garden.

“My favorite place on campus is the community garden because where flowers bloom, so does hope.”

Lizzie Gildner, ’20 says the spots on campus that show off it’s natural beauty are her favorite.

“My favorite places on campus at Meredith are the ones that capture the natural beauty of the community. The little moments walking in between classes and work, relaxing and sharing a meal in the courtyard, walking to the commuter lot, or gardening in the Martin Garden will all be fond memories of my time spent at Meredith because of the beauty and colors that were set before me. The campus is so well kept and I’m very grateful for all those who help maintain its beauty. Every season brings new colors and life to the little place we call home.”

Anne Robinson, ’20, loves the courtyard because of all the traditions that take place there.

“One of my favorite places on campus is the courtyard! I love this place so much because it is where I have made some of my greatest memories. From traditions like Stunt, Can Art, and Class Day to frolicking in the snow, picnic dinners, and studying outside once spring finally arrived, it is just my favorite!”
