Flag Football at Meredith College

Flag football is an increasingly popular sport – it’ll even make its Olympic debut in 2028. To stay ahead of the game, Meredith College was the first USA South Conference school to add flag football as an official sport. The College’s inaugural flag football team will begin competing in the Spring 2027 season, and recruiting is already underway. 

In today’s blog, we share more information about our newest sport. 

Meet the Coach 

Bryonne Herring is the first-ever Head Coach of the Avenging Angels flag football program. With a decade of coaching experience, Coach Herring has previously served as the head coach of the women’s club flag football team at SUNY Brockport and in strength and conditioning leadership roles at multiple colleges, including King’s College. 

Aligned with Meredith’s mission and values, Coach Herring brings a holistic, athlete-centered approach to coaching that emphasizes growth, performance, and well-being.   

“I was drawn to the opportunity to shape the program from the ground up and to empower women athletes in a sport that has historically been underrepresented at the collegiate level,” said Herring. “Even more compelling is Meredith’s commitment to leadership development and education. Coaching here means contributing not just to athletic success, but to the growth of strong, confident student-athletes who will carry those lessons into their careers and communities.”
