Class Year:  2010
Major:  Women's Studies/Political Science
Current Career: I'm currently a full time student with a part time job as a pet care specialist at PetSmart and also a part time job as the departmental student assistant for women's studies.
What You're Up to Now:  I'm working on getting through the semester so I can enjoy some summer!  Right now, I'm just working on making good grades and going to work to pay my bills.  I'm also working on getting all of my things together for my study abroad semester in Amsterdam.

Q: What do you think is the most important aspect of a women's studies degree?
A:   I think it's important to realize that it is a degree just like any other, with its own strengths and weaknesses.  There are a plethora of careers out there that look for people with women's studies degrees because they realize how knowledgable those people are.

Q: What experiences such as internships, research, course work, etc. stood out for you and what were the benefits of these programs for you?
A:  I'm currently doing political science research with a women's studies slant and it's been a very eye-opening experience for me.  I've learned a lot about myself and my capabilities and I've also learned a lot about how important looking at society and gender can be to research.

Q: In retrospect, what portion of the women's studies program has had the most impact on your life?
A: The most important part to me was my gender communication and gender psychology classes.  I learned a lot about our culture and how it differes from others and also that men and women aren't really that different at all.  They've shown me so many things that I otherwise would not have known so that now when I watch TV or see people interacting, I can really pick up on the gender roles and the other things I've learned throughout my women's studies courses at Meredith.

Q: What was the most fun about the women's studies program?
A:  I loved the Faces of Feminism project and the ZINE project.  I also think I'm extremely lucky to have been able to meet Nancy Pelosi!!

Q: What would you suggest to other Meredith College students interested in taking women's studies?
A:  I'd suggest that they ask themselves one question:  Are women's rights important to you?  If yes, than I'd point them towards WST 200 or another introductory class.  If not, than I'd point them out the front gates because everyone at Meredith should say "yes" to that!
