Meredith College "Walks for Hope" to Aid Save the Children

By Kelly Jones, '05

Meredith College will hold a 24-hour tsunami relief "Walk for Hope" beginning on Wednesday, April 27 at 7:00 a.m. and ending Thursday, April 28 at 7:00 a.m.

Each walker will pledge a minimum of $10. The money raised from this event will go toward Save the Children, an international, four-star charity founded in 1932. Save the Children is dedicated to helping some of this disaster's most innocent and powerless victims, currently aiming to help children and families in Indonesia and the coastal areas of India and Sri Lanka.

The idea for the "Walk for Hope" originated from Katie Strickler, '08.

"The Walk for Hope was designed and operated by Meredith College students and is a great way for Meredith College to become involved with global events," said Brittany Allred, '08.

Nicki Hull, '08, added, "This is a great opportunity for our college to reach out to the rest of the world. It is important that we show love to this part of the world that is currently in turmoil."

The final date to sign up is Friday, April 22. For more information, please contact the Office of Student Activities at (919) 760-8338.
