Overview of Program

All full-time students at Meredith College are furnished a Lenovo ThinkPad computer and an ink jet printer. The computer remains the property of Meredith College. Should a student withdraw from Meredith, temporarily enroll at another college or university, or enroll in fewer than 12 semester hours, the student must return the computer.

Failure to return the laptop will result in a Buy-Out charge to the student’s account equal to the fair market value of the computer. If the laptop is returned late, prior to the ”end of lease period”, a fee equal to the total monthly payments made to IBM while the laptop was not in the possession of Meredith College, will be charged.

The printer becomes the property of the student the day of distribution; it is not part of any upgrades or rotations. Upon graduation coupled with completion of a minimum of two full time semesters, the laptop becomes the property of the graduating student and the student will assume all support and maintenance responsibilities.

At the beginning of the student’s junior year or the third year of the computer’s life cycle, students are required to exchange the ThinkPad for a new model. Because any ThinkPad exchanged after the specified exchange date may no longer be under warranty, students who do not exchange ThinkPad’s at the specified exchange date will be responsible for all repairs and associated costs otherwise covered by the warranty.

The student will be required to sign a new Program Agreement, revised accordingly for the new computer, before receiving the new computer. The newly issued computer remains the property of Meredith College until the student graduates. Upon graduation and completion of a minimum of two full time semesters, the computer becomes the property of the graduating student and the student will assume all support and maintenance responsibilities.

Because of software licensing agreements, all graduating students will need to purchase individual licenses for certain software applications or remove them from the ThinkPad prior to graduation. These applications include, but are not limited to, McAfee Anti-Virus, WinZip, TI Interactive, and Fathom. Other software applications that students may continue to use after graduation will be subject to the software manufacturer’s terms and conditions. The College will provide seniors with details on the specific application(s) that they may or may not use after graduation.
