Laptop Program

The Laptop Program is part of Meredith College's Technology Initiative and is currently offered to all under-graduate degree seeking students who are taking a full course load (12 hours or greater). The Laptop Program will be governed by the procedures outlined in Meredith College's Laptop Policy. Each student or a parent/guardian (if the student is under 18 years of age) will sign a Program Agreement that covers very specific rules and regulations concerning the care of the laptops. As outlined in the Agreement - upon graduation or competition of a professional under-graduate program, such as second degree, second major, or professional certificate, coupled with a minimum of two full time completed semesters at Meredith College, the laptop will become the property of the student.

As an incoming full-time student, Meredith College will provide a laptop computer—printer, software, and a backpack or Tote bag. These laptops are equipped with wireless, wired, and modem access. Because Meredith is a wireless campus the student may use her laptop virtually anywhere on campus without connecting to a cable or modem. If needed, detailed instructions or support from the Help Desk can be provided any student that desires to take the laptop off campus for use at home or at any wireless site. Also—for the computer novices to the technologically advanced—the College will provide a high level of human technical support to students with laptops.

If the student desires to use their own laptop, either because they don't qualify for the program or prefer to use their own equipment, Meredith College will configure their personal laptop to access the Meredith Wireless community or issue a special wireless card to be used while the student is on the Meredith campus.

It is one of the goals of the college to be sure that students are involved with the latest technology during their studies. Education and technology has developed over the years and Meredith College is on course with the more progressive colleges in the country. One of the primary goals with educational technology that Meredith has achieved was to create a campus-wide wireless environment. This will provide the possibilities for laptop use in the classroom, library, grounds, virtually anywhere. In time as the technology becomes more tailored for faculty and student interaction, Meredith will continue to enhance the laptop program by looking into laptop/tablet use.
