Allynna T. StoneDirector of the N.C. Teaching Fellows Program at Meredith College

Allynna StoneAllynna T. Stone returned to Meredith College, her alma mater, in August 2003 to serve as director of the N.C. Teaching Fellows Program. Stone, who has a B.A. in history from Meredith and a M.Ed. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has extensive experience as a public school teacher, assistant principal and principal. She is certified in K-6, Early Childhood Education, Mentor Teaching and Administration.

Stone taught kindergarten and first grade in Johnston and Wake counties for 12 years. Between 1992 and 2003, she held administrative positions at Wake County schools, beginning as assistant principal at Adams Elementary, then assistant principal at Wiley International Elementary and, finally, principal at Washington Gifted and Talented Elementary.

Under her tenure, Washington Elementary received many honors and accolades. They include recognition as a North Carolina Entrepreneurial School (1998), a N.C. School of Excellence (2002 and 2003), and a National Magnet School of Excellence (2002 and 2003). In 2003, Washington GT Magnet won the Distinguished Dr. Ron Simpson Award as the top Magnet School in the United States.

Stone’s individual honors include Cary’s (N.C.) Outstanding Young Educator (1982), Finalist Nominee for N.C. Outstanding Young Educator (1982), Adams Elementary Teacher of the Year (1984) and Wake County PTA Outstanding K-5 Principal (2002).
