Sustainable September
The Meredith College community will “think green” this fall in celebration of the College’s annual Sustainable September.
A variety of programs are being organized by departments across campus, including educational activities, sessions on green jobs, local food options and other sustainable topics. Check here for frequent updates and "like" the Meredith Sustainability facebook page.

- Tsunami relief event, including Taiko drumming and Japanese instrumentals. September 24, Jones Auditorium, 7:00pm. Donations accepted. Proceeds support children orphaned by the recent Japanese tsunami.

Green Living Choices
- Wellness Wednesdays at Belk Dining Hall. Every Wednesday at lunch explore low-calorie foods and alternative proteins.
- Wednesday Wellness Walk. Explore the greenway trail towards the art museum on Wednesday mornings in September; join Sherri Henderson, Director of the Health Center, for an early morning 3 mile walk. Meet in the parking lot behind Weatherspoon at 6:45 a.m. Showers available for women at Weatherspoon Gym, personal towels and toiletries required. Rain plan: Meet at Weatherspoon Gym at 7:00am for cycling & elliptical workouts.
- Library Foyer Display Case featuring library resources on being green, including books and films about sustainability.
- Focus on food waste. Belk Dining Hall invites students to take a critical look at the amount of food waste we compost daily. Take what you’ll eat and then come back for more.

- Recycled Art Project run by MCAN program, judging at Taste of Research on Sept 28. Details from Dr. Rebecca Duncan: Recycle your trash and express your creativity by entering the “Trash into Art” competition. Register your team on Wednesday, September 21 at lunchtime in Belk. Then create a free-standing sculpture or a wall-mounted piece, and bring it to the SMB outdoor classroom (outside the atrium) on Wednesday, September 28 at 5:00 p.m. for judging. You may use your own materials or help yourself to items in the green bins in Cate Center, The Oaks, and Belk Dining Hall. Prizes will be awarded to the most creative entries. - No Child Left Inside presentation by the Meredith Advocates for Young Children
- Air Quality & Kids: What our kids are breathing and how it affects them presentation by Dr. Paul Winterhoff. Presentation will focus on children developing asthma post-natally and the lack of protective precautionary standards, 9/14 at Carbon Nation Screening (details above).

- Angels for the Environment Annual Bonfire. Saturday, Ocotber 1, 11:00-3:00pm.

- Personal energy audit presentations by students.
- Sustainability Interchange at NCSU designed to connect local businesses with students and demonstrate the wide scope of sustainability-related jobs. Speakers and “expo”. Saturday October 15th 9:00 – 5:00pm, Nelson hall, NCSU Auditorium.
- Walktober events coming in October through the WOW program.
- Workday at the edible landscape (mulching, composting & weeding) October 5th from 2:00-5:00pm led by Aaron Schettler (Grounds Department) and Plant Biology course. Tour of trees included in the landscape to follow.
