Third Week RecycleMania Prize Winners
Congratulations to Donna Knott in Johnson Hall and Tamar Harris in the Cate Center for their participation in campus recycling. Donna and Tamar won compact florescent bulbs (CFLs) on Friday, February 27, 2009. CFLs are four to six times more efficient than incandescent bulbs, and can save up to $30 per bulb over a bulb’s lifetime (www.GElighting.com). Thank you to student volunteer Charis Hill for her help with Friday’s recycling and waste assessment. Volunteers polled 18 staff members in Johnson Hall and the Cate Center that were present and willing to participate. Ten demonstrated correct recycling and were entered into the drawing for the prizes. Similar assessments will continue on campus. To volunteer to help, contact Volunteer Services at tabithau@meredith.edu Recyclemania is a national competition. In Spring 2009, Meredith is competing against Peace College to see who can recycle the most per person on campus. See the chart in the Cate Center lobby for latest results. In January, Meredith recycled 825 pounds of plastic, 68 pounds of aluminum, 200 pounds of glass and 1250 pounds of paper.
