Like most people, you've probably noticed things about the world around you. Whether it's the type of clothes that people wear at different functions, the kinds of classes that students prefer to take in the mornings or the best time to study so you can do well on an exam. We learn an awful lot from our observations of people and events in our environment. Social scientists do the same thing, although in most cases, their observations also include measuring or assigning numbers to the things we observe. How is it that scientists determine the meaning of these measurements? Have you ever wondered why scientists sometimes get it wrong? Why is it that the weatherperson gives the wrong forecast? While statistics can appear intimidating to some of us because it is definitely a mathematical discipline, you might be surprised to find how much you already think like a statistician! Come take PSY 200- Statistical Methods in Psychology and learn about how the behavioral sciences interpret research data and discover how there's a statistician in each of us!

Memory, Language, and Cognition (PSY 432)

"I think; therefore I am." -Rene Descartes

One of the characteristics that have set humans apart from other animals is our ability to engage in "higher-level thinking." What does this mean? What makes our brains different than those of, say...............rats? What allows us to imagine things? Do we think in pictures? How do we solve problems? Why do we sometimes have trouble paying attention to things? How do we learn to talk and walk? Why do we often forget answers on tests of material that we studied for hours? Is there really such a thing as déjà vu? Come take PSY 432 – Memory, Language, and Cognition to explore these questions and find some of the answers that psychological research has discovered!
