APPLIED MUSIC STUDY:
private lessons are available in nearly all instruments and voice, throughout the summer. In order to register for lessons for credit, you must take six one-hour lessons over a period of six weeks. An applied music fee of $90 is charged, in addition to the one hour of tuition. You may take piano, voice, violin, flute, guitar, cello, organ. . . .to name a few of the most popular ones. You may register for lessons during any two consecutive three-week sessions. Lessons are scheduled individually to accommodate schedules of students and teachers.
MUS 214 (Music Appreciation), 1st 3-week summer session, 8:30-11:50
This course is designed to impart an understanding of music as an element of liberal culture and to develop the power of listening intelligently. Masterworks in music literature will be learned. No technical knowledge is required. Credit, three hours.
You will listen to great music and learn about historical events, composers' lives, and specific characteristics of the music which will help you develop greater enjoyment of all types of music. At the beginning, we will study the basic elements of music and relate them to musical examples.
CHAMBER MUSIC CAMP/MUS 322 (Pedagogy Practicum)
The annual Lamar Stringfield Chamber Music Camp will take place June 10-15 and June 17-22. As part of this thriving camp, which attracts students from elementary through high school ages, college students can earn an hour of credit for pedagogy practicum (MUS 322) while serving as counselors and coaches. Arrangements for credit are made individually as appropriate; see Fran Page for further information.
MUS 425, Seminar-Internship in Pedagogy -- 1st 3-week session, 2 hours
Several camps are offered during the summer for piano students of all ages and levels of advancement. Meredith students may earn credit for the seminar-internship while working as counselors and coaches in these camps; in addition, they will be able to establish a relationship with established piano teachers at Meredith and in the community and to study topics in pedagogy in depth. The experience continues throughout the summer under the supervision of Dr. Lyman.
