English

Love and betrayal... Self sacrifice and greed...  Faith and doubt... Ponder life's questions with some of the world's best writers. Whether you love English or find it challenging, the summer is a great time to take your general education requirements.  In the summer you'll be able to read with fewer distractions, work closely with your professor, and focus on an important life skill—writing.

ChaucerIn English 200 you'll encounter tricksters, unrequited lovers, and social snobs in Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Jane Austen. You'll also read some works of world fiction that may be new to you.

After you've taken English 111 and English 200, you'll be ready to finish your general education requirement in English. A good choice for you would be English 206, Survey of American Literature. In English 206 you will read the fiction, poetry and drama of a diverse set of writers, including tax resisters, nature lovers and fearless women, all of whom explore enduring questions of national identity.
