Connecting Ideas + Understanding
Both majors and non-majors have several options this summer to increase their communication knowledge + skills as well as knock off some key curriculum requirements.


Public Speaking (COM 225)
Regardless of your path after college, public speaking is an essential life skill. (It also satisfies the across the Communicationcurriculum oral communication thread required for all Meredith students). Conquer your fears + polish your presentation skills in a compacted session of this interactive course. First session will be led by Dr. Creagh. With more than two decades experience that includes teaching 36 different courses at Meredith, Dr. Creagh brings his unique expertise in communication to his classes. Second session will be led by Kristi Brewer, a professor with a decade of teaching experience at Meredith and 12 years as a full-time communication instructor at NCSU. Ms. Brewer is also an active member of the Carolina’s Speech Association.

Interpersonal Communication (COM 260)
Our ability to communicate effectively our ideas + feelings is vital in all facets of life. Join Dr. Ross to increase your awareness of everyday communication behaviors, improving your success in communicating with others. This course is required for all communication majors. It is also a beneficial elective.

Business & Professional Communication (COM-350)

The nature of communication theory and practice in business and
professional settings. Development of individual, dyadic, group, and
organizational communication profi ciencies. Supervisory/subordinate
and peer communication, active listening, group communication, and
presentational speaking. Prerequisites: COM-225.

Gender Communication (COM 375)
This course focuses on the effects of gender on the interpersonal communication process. Gender differences, communication about women and men via language and media, and interpersonal communication are key topics. Adjunct Julie Mayberry has taught communication and women's studies courses at Meredith since 2002. She has also taught courses at UNC-Chapel Hill and Peace College. Her teaching topics include Myers Briggs personality types, gender communication, birth order and self concept.
