My name is Keturah Beckham and I am a full time non-traditional student at Meredith College. My major is Social Work and my minor is Women’s Studies. I came to Meredith College after attending a year at Wake Technical College, where I was also a full time student. Prior to Wake Technical College, I was employed full time in corporate America. After 19 years and various positions including human resources, technical support, and management based positions, I decided I wanted to do something different with my life. After attending Wake Technical College for a year and a half, I began to look into 4 year colleges and found Meredith. I have always heard wonderful things about Meredith and after attending an open house, I was sold. Coming to Meredith to pursue one of my many dreams has been and continues to be a wonderful journey. I am learning so much about myself and the world around me. I also realize that you are never too old to learn. I will graduate in Spring 08 with my BSW in Social Work and a minor in Women’s Studies. After graduation, I plan to work full time as a social worker and attend graduate school at a later date. In addition to attending school, I also have a two year old daughter and a fifteen year old son, both of whom keep me very busy!!! The one thing I can say about attending Meredith is that my professors are very understanding and work with me when family issues arise. I don’t feel I would have that type of support in a huge university setting. I love being a part of Meredith College and I know when I graduate, I will have the tools I need in order to begin my new career.
