Jill Palchinsky, senior.

"I traveled to Kenya to do field research on AIDS with my biology professor John Mecham. I met a lot of Kenyatta University students. They are so much like me, but they have to face so many issues that I haven’t, including the AIDS epidemic.

Studying abroad just makes the world more accessible. Having friends in
a country where the AIDS problem is huge makes the disease feel next door. They don’t get as much money and as much help as we do in America. Since I’ve been at Meredith, I’ve been able to experience two non-western cultures, in Belize and Kenya. I really feel like third world countries are not behind. They are advanced, just in a non-western way.”

Majors: Biology and Piano Pedagogy.

Dual Focus: “I’m interested in studying medicine, but I live for music. Other schools I applied to wanted me to focus on either music or biology. Meredith has encouraged me to do both.”
