The mission of the Office of Student Leadership and Service is to develop the knowledge, skills, values, and global awareness necessary to foster leadership and responsible citizenship in a safe and inclusive learning environment. Students and other members of the Meredith community are given opportunities to:

• develop leadership abilities, grow in their understanding of self, others and community;
• design and implement programs to enhance social, intellectual, recreational, community service and campus governance involvement;
• participate in civic engagement and activities that focus on affecting positive change; and
• connect to the institution and peers through student organizations;

Our Vision:

The Office of Student Leadership and Service will create an experiential learning environment where members of the Meredith community are inspired to be effective, confident leaders with integrity who are challenged to take risks toward positive change in a global community.

Outcomes:

We have developed the following outcomes for our programming.

As a result of participation in SLS programming, students will learn the following:

1. Self-Knowledge - Awareness of values, strengths, and limitations that motivate one to action and behave congruently
• Behavioral indicators:
• Identify values and interests
• Identify skills and knowledge
• Devote time and energy to personally identified priorities
2. Interpersonal Relationships - Understand the value of diverse ideas and work with others toward a common goal
• Behavioral indicators:
• Recognize the value of multiple points of view
• Work with others to achieve a common goal
• Articulate group processes/dynamics needed to work effectively in a group
3. Social Responsibility  - Understand and participate in social action
• Behavioral indicators:
• Understand social issues
• Articulate the impact of service
4. Sense of Belonging - Develop a sense of membership and emotional connection with Meredith and the outside community
• Behavioral indicators:
• Develop sense of belonging with the community
• Develop sense of belonging on campus

 

5. Community Needs - As a result of a partnership with the Office of Student Leadership and Service, community identified needs will be addressed.
