Medical Services
Resident students who have paid the health care fee are offered unlimited outpatient visits to the Health Center. Non-resident, full-time students are eligible for medical services after payment of the student health fee.
Services provided, but not limited to, are clinical care for minor illnesses, health education, emergency care, health protection and disease prevention. Student teacher physicals, sexually transmitted disease testing, gynecological exams are available for a nominal fee by appointment.
The Health Center offers several vaccines to students for a fee. Currently influenza vaccine and Menactra (meningitis vaccine) are offered in the fall. Gardasil (HPV vaccine) will be available on campus starting in the Fall of 2007.
Any medical fees incurred by the student for prescription charges, referrals to physicians, hospitals, urgent care centers and laboratories are the responsibility of the student.
Health Center Hours
Monday – Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Nights and Weekends: Call the Resident Director on-call (919) 612-6450 or Campus Police (919) 760-8888 for a list of available health care resources.
Physician Hours (available by appointment)
Monday: 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - noon
Friday: 10:00 a.m. - noon
A Physician Assistant is also available by appointment.
Gynecology Clinic
Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Education of young women concerning their sexuality is a primary concern of the Health Center staff. The Gynecology Clinic offers physical examinations, pap tests, sexually transmitted disease/infection testing, breast examinations, family planning and other gynecological services. There is a nominal fee charged to the individual student for this service. An appointment is necessary for the clinic and can be made by calling the Health Center at (919) 760-8535.
Health Education
For many students, the college years represent the first time one must make individual decisions about lifestyle and personal habits. Health education assists the student in making responsible choices about nutrition, wellness, sexuality and illness.
Meredith provides the following education services:
- Women's health clinic
- Health information via pamphlets, books, magazines and VHS tapes
- Health concerns consultation
- Bulletin boards and presentations
Health Form
You will not be allowed to register for classes until your Health and Immunization form is completed and returned to the Admissions office.

Basic Sickness Benefit Plan
Confidentiality of Medical Information
All health and medical information is confidential. Health records are not available to anyone outside the Health Center medical staff without written permission of the student. These records are not considered part of the permanent school records.
Class Absence Excuses
Written class excuses are not provided by the Carroll Health Center. Nurses will, however, verify the illness of a student at the request of a faculty member. Specific medical details will not be released without written permission of the student.
Transportation
Campus police may provide transportation to the Health Center if the student is unable to get there on her own.
Student Accident and Health Insurance
Meredith College is pleased to make available, to all full-time students, limited student accident and sickness insurance coverage. All full-time students will be covered under the student accident plan at no cost to the student.
The Basic Sickness Benefit Plan is available to all full-time resident students, and to those non-resident students who have paid the student health fee. This plan covers a full year, from August through July. If you do not already have individual coverage, you may want to consider this plan.
We have arranged for a low cost Sickness plan to be offered to our full-time students that provides limited benefits for hospitalization, surgical and medical treatment. The Sickness Insurance plan is available to all full-time resident students and those non-resident students who have paid the student health fee. The insurance policy covers a full year – August through July. If you do not already have individual coverage, you may want to consider the student health insurance plan.
