The Enrollment Management Team (EMT) met on June 6th from
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the following members in attendance: Ruth Ann Balla, Celeste
Brogdon, Rebecca Duncan, Ann Gleason, Sue Kearney, Carol Kercheval, and LaRose Spooner.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved with one correction, which was the addition
of Jeannie Morelock to the list of attendees.
Updates on the outlook for fall enrollment were provided by Carol (traditional
admissions), Sandra (23+ Program), Sue (pre-registrations) and Ann (on-campus housing). At
the last meeting it was agreed that the EMT members would conduct a telemarketing program
aimed at eligible students who have not pre-registered to remind them that the
registration period will end on June 23rd. Sue indicated that the telemarketing
materials will be going to the members in the next few days. (The cover memo and a sample
telemarketing report form are attached to the official minutes.)
LaRose informed the group that a re-organization of the 23+ Program will take place on
July 1st. The recruitment and admission functions for the nontraditional-aged
students will be moved to the Office of Admissions, and the advising and advocacy
responsibilities will remain with the 23+ Program, which will report directly to the Vice
President for Academic Affairs. (A listing of responsibilities assigned to each office is
attached to the official minutes.)
Annual reports are due in LaRoses office on June 15th. Each EMT member
should report on activities and strategies carried out within their areas and/or by them
personally during the past year to support recruitment and retention at Meredith. LaRose
will compile the reports into a booklet to be distributed to President Hartford and to the
Trustees. The target date for distribution is July 15th.
Various members reported on the following activities that relate to the experience of
Meredith students:
- The Summer Reading Program will have the incoming freshmen reading Tuesdays with
Morrie. This year a session will be added on the first day of orientation for
parents to discuss the book. There will also be bulletin boards and graffiti boards for
comments.
- The Laptop Initiative Project will provide computers to the freshman Honors Program and
Teaching Fellows Program participants. There will be special sections of English 111 and
First-Year Experience classes, and the instructors will serve as faculty advisers. In
addition, there will be monthly seminars.
- A Pricing Study is being conducted by an outside consulting firm, George Dehne &
Associates, to help determine what might constitute optimal pricing for Meredith. The
study will examine Merediths market position, public image, and ambitions or goals.
Sue indicated that a five-year trend report on CIRP survey responses had recently been
sent to all EMT members and encouraged individuals to review that data for helpful
information it might provide about freshman characteristics and attitudes. She also
provided a brief update on the status of the Retention Strategies and Multicultural
Recruitment Work Group reports. The meeting ended with a luncheon for the group.
