Who is Reading Technology for?
Reading Technology is for any student (with or without a disability) who is interested in enhancing their reading, writing and studying processes.
If you:
- struggle to get through all of your required reading,
- become bored or easily tired by reading,
- need to improve your comprehension, or
- want to complete your assignments faster and more efficiently
Then, Reading Technology is just for you!

Reading Technology Software
WYNN is now available on all Meredith computers. Scans and reads a variety of text formats.
Features:
- Bi-modal approach to reading—text is highlighted as it is spoken aloud
- Full editing capabilities—modify scanned pages or new docs
- Natural sounding speech
- Built-in talking dictionary
- Study tools: highlighting, book marking, text and voice notes, outlining
- Spell check as you type
- Convert to MP3 and texts with you
- Reads the Internet
ReadPlease is available on six stations in the Reading Technology Lab (213 Carroll Hall). Reads any text you see on your screen.
Features:
- Microsoft voices
- Customize font and background color
- Reads text via Windows clipboard from any program (copy/paste)
- Reads email emoticons such as :-) or :(
Lecshare is available on all stations in the Reading Technology Lab (213 Carroll Hall). Creates accessible PowerPoint presentations (PPTs) and evaluates the accessibility of existing PPTs.
Features:
- Evaluate PPTs for accessibility
- Create accessible PPTs
- Check for 508 compliance with the Accessible HTML export option

- Flat bed scanner

- Microphones
Note: It is recommended that the student bring her own headset to the lab.
Available in the Noel House:
- High-speed scanner for single-sided or duplex documents and unbound books
