Hours of Operation
During the academic year, the Counseling Center is open Monday- Friday 8:00-5:00 with the exception of holidays. Summer Hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00- 5:00 and Fridays 8:00-12:00. Summer 2008 hours begin May 19 and continue through August 1.
Beth Meier, MS, LPA
Director
Beth Meier has been at Meredith since August of 1993 and has been the Director since May 1995. She is a Licensed Psychological Associate. Beth attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she earned a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in counseling psychology. She completed a doctoral internship at Virginia Commonwealth University. As a part of her graduate work, Meier worked for the Department of Child Family Service counseling incest survivors and their families. She also worked for Charter Northridge Hospital, a psychiatric hospital for two years as a caseworker. Her counseling interests include depression, relationship difficulties and abuse issues. She has received training in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), crisis intervention, coaching, and group counseling. She approaches counseling from an interpersonal, cognitive behavorial and psychodynamic theoretical background.
Lynne Kohn, MSW, LCSW
Assistant Director, Coordinator of
Graduate Intern Program
Lynne Kohn joined the Counseling Center staff in 1999 and works during the academic year. She has a master’s degree in Social Work from Catholic University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has a background as a nurse and a teacher. As a therapist, she has worked in community mental health, private practice, and college counseling (Elon and Meredith), and she especially enjoys the challenge of motivating women to be who they are and all they can be. She coordinates the program in the Counseling Center in which graduate student interns from other universities learn to become counselors.
Jill Triana, MS, LPC, CRC
Assistant Director, Coordinator of Disability Services
Jill Triana joined the Counseling Center staff in July 2004. She has been serving as Coordinator of Disability Services since January 2006 after serviing for 2 1/2 years as a Disability Counselor. Prior to that she served as a part-time Disability Counselor throughout the 2002-2003 academic year and as a Graduate Intern in the spring of 2002. Jill completed her B.A. in psychology from Sweet Briar College (VA) and earned her M.S. in rehabilitation psychology & counseling from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. Jill has previous experience working with college students with LD/ADHD, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, substance abuse treatment, and children and adults with Autism. Her professional interests include working with young women with ADHD, adjustment to life transitions, women's issue's, self-advocacy, coaching, relaxation techniques and mood disorders.
Lynn Bregman-Blass
Assistant Director, Coordinator of Outreach
Lynn Bregman-Blass is new to the Meredith community. She has been a psychotherapist for 25 years. A New York City native, she spent many years living in California and Colorado. She has maintained a private practice as well as working in corporate wellness programs. A visual artist, Bregman-Blass says that “My work with people is critical to my life as an artist and my life as an artist is critical to my work with people…both are creative and are about reaching inside and finding your own voice….it is about owning and valuing what you have to say.” She is seeing students and directing the Counseling Centers’ outreach programs. She is on campus 20 hours a week for the academic year.
Henriette Williams-Alexander, MSW, PLCSW
Disability Counselor
Henriette Williams-Alexander joined the Counseling Center staff as a Disability Counselor in August 2007. Prior to that, she served as a part-time Disability Counselor from January 2007 through July 2007 and a Graduate Intern during the 2005-2006 academic year. She completed her B.A. in sociology from the University of Virginia and earned her Masters in social work from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previously, Williams-Alexander worked as an outpatient therapist for at-risk youth at Caring Family Network, a private nonprofit organization. She has experience in working with inner city youth, foster care, and redirection schools. Her professional interests include family of origin issues, relationship building, spirituality, transition difficulties and student athletes.
Crystal Burwell, MA, NCC
Disability Counselor
Crystal Burwell recently joined the Counseling Center in July 2008 as a Disability Counselor, after completing her graduate internship during the 2007-2008 academic year. She completed her M.A. from the counselor education program at North Carolina Central University and her B.A. from Gardner-Webb University. Crystal is currently pursuing her PhD in counselor education from North Carolina State University. She is interested in diversity issues and serves on the board for NCAMCD- North Carolina Association for Multicultural Counseling Development. She enjoys working with young college women and is excited about being at Meredith.
Angela Frederick, B.A., B.S.
Office Manager
Angela Frederick joined the Counseling Center as full-time Office Manager in May of 2003. She is a Meredith College alumna, earning both a B.S. in child development and a B.A. in psychology. She plans to continue in her education by pursuing her master's degree in counseling. Frederick volunteers as a rape/crisis counselor at INTERACT. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree at Campbell University. Angela volunteers as a rape/crisis counselor at a local agency.
