Transfer Student Information
New transfer students are contacted by the Academic Advising Center with information about advising and registration after they are admitted to Meredith. It is important for you to return the forms included with this information so that we can quickly assign you a Faculty Advisor. An Advisor from your major area of study can assist you with understanding general education and major requirements, help you plan a fall schedule, and authorize you to register after the advising appointment. If you are unsure about a major at this time, we will assign you to an advisor who is specially trained to work with undecided students.
Prior to your advising session, we suggest that you prepare a tentative outline of courses you wish to take during the upcoming semester. Consider the following tips when preparing for your advising session:
- Determine what your goals are with regard to timeline. Make sure not to overextend yourself, so plan carefully taking all of your commitments and personal goals into consideration.
- Use the Meredith catalog (available online at www.meredith.edu/academics/catalogues.htm) to determine course requirements.
- If you have not yet decided on a major, focus on taking General Education Requirements and explore courses that interest you.
- Fill any gaps in your schedule with elective courses that interest you or may be helpful in achieving your goals.
Contact us for more specific information about scheduling advising appointments and registering for classes.
In addition to a Faculty Advisor, and support from the Academic Advising Center, you will also have a Transfer Student Ambassador (TSA) to assist you in your transition to Meredith. TSA’s offer a student perspective on the advising and class selection process and additional support to transfer students as they join the Meredith community. Click on the following TSA link for more information about the 2008-2009 Transfer Student Ambassadors.
Our New Student Orientation will be held August 16-20, 2008. Each new student is asked to arrive to school a few days before classes begin to receive a warm welcome, a chance to move in, and a comprehensive overview of the College and our services. Information about Orientation will come from the Dean of Students Office this summer. You can also find information about Orientation online at http://www.meredith.edu/students/dos/. Continue to visit our website over the summer for specific information on Orientation events for transfer students.
Meredith has a very personal advising process. In addition to your faculty advisor, there are offices of Academic Advising, 23+ Programs, and Commuter Life and Diversity Programs that exist to help you begin Meredith on solid footing. These offices are in Park Center. If you have any questions, please contact the Academic Advising Center at (919) 760-8059.
Advising and Registration for Fall 2008
Transfer students have two options for advising and registration:
- Students may be assigned and make an appointment with their advisor to pre-register between April 21 and August 13, 2008. Registration times are based on hours already earned. To be assigned an advisor and begin this process, please complete the information form sent to you via mail and return it to the Academic Advising Center.*
- Students who wish to register in August will be assigned an advisor and an appointment time during Orientation prior to registration. Registration for new students takes place on Tuesday, August 19, 2008.
*Students choosing the second option who register prior to July 17 must pay a $100 nonrefundable deposit to Admissions prior to registration. Students wishing to register between July 19 and August 13 must pay their first installment of tuition prior to registration or make arrangements with Financial Aid. Students may pay tuition to Accounting when they come to campus for the advising meeting, then go to Admissions in order to be cleared for registration.
