Meredith College offers majors in both Sociology and Criminology.

Sociology is the scientific study of society. This field involves the study of human behavior and the social lives of people, groups and societies. If you are interested in social justice, working with diverse groups of people, understanding how people interact and how society is organized in ways that can both support and suppress its own citizens then this major is for you. Students in Sociology take the core classes and electives that may include Social Interaction, Sociology of Youth, Gender and Society, Deviance and Society, and others including Media, Self and Society.

Criminology   is the study of crime and related issues from a liberal arts/social scientific perspective. Criminology students also take the core classes in theory and research methods, required courses like Criminology and Social Problems and electives in Criminology like The Color of Crime, Corrections, Drugs and Society, Gender and Crime, and many more. This major also requires 9 credit hours in related courses which includes things like courses in Abnormal Psychology, Law and Society, Legal Studies, Intermediate Spanish or French II and others. This major is an excellent one to add to a double major or a minor in fields like Computer Studies, Psychology, Political Science, International Studies, Spanish, Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Business, and even Photography. With only 12 more hours in non-Criminology Sociology electives, as student can double major in Sociology.
