Welcome to service-learning at Meredith College. Service-learning is an exciting form of experiential learning that connects service to education, resulting in tremendous benefits to you and our students. It is a firm, reciprocal partnership that seeks to meet a need you might have, promote civic engagement among our community's youth, and stimulate student learning in complex issues by introducing them to service.
We hope that you will take the time to look at this website and the resources it offers you and determine whether you would like to explore service-learning in-depth. Feel free to add your organization to our database or post volunteer opportunities. If you have any further questions or would like to talk with our office, please contact us.
Investment:
Time for Logistics. You will need to devote some additional time, energy, and personnel to help develop, monitor, and maintain volunteer opportunities that fit within the course's parameters and objectives. Meetings with the program's staff and the course's faculty will enable you all to achieve agency and course objectives and some on-site supervision of the volunteers will need to be determined.
Contact with Meredith College. Your organization will need to contact the Meredith community regarding the placement and progress of volunteers. The program's staff will help you navigate the system and should be your first stop on campus.
Provide meaningful volunteer opportunities. Students like to be engaged in meaningful projects that will have a demonstrated effect on your organization. While filing, copying, and other administrative tasks can be necessary elements of any volunteer function, they should be balanced with other activities that are more hands-on and direct.
Pay-Offs:
Volunteers. You can expand your resources and tackle project needs with the help of our students, faculty, and staff.
A solid partnership with Meredith College. Gain access to additional resources and develop a more solid partnership with Meredith College through service-learning. Working together, we can positively change the community and promote social justice.
