Research has shown that collaborative learning has a powerful impact on student learning. Students reported that they benefited tremendously studying outside of class in small groups of four to six. Students each do the assignment, independently, before they meet. Group discussions are organized around the assignment (Making the Most of College: Students Speak their Minds, 2001).
