Vision 2010 Strategic Plan

In October 2005, the Meredith College Board of Trustees approved Vision 2010, a long range strategic plan for Meredith College.  Information about this bold new initiative, which addresses Meredith’s commitment to preparing students to become engaged global citizens and leaders and to becoming recognized for its academically rigorous and transformative education, can be found at Vision 2010.

The Meredith College Board of Trustees began its discussion of the strategic planning cycle at its June 2003 retreat. In subsequent meetings the Executive Committee and the full Board reaffirmed the mission statement of the College and approved a vision statement, a values statement and a planning process.

The planning process provided for a Vision 2010 Committee to develop the priorities for the College to support the vision and for interdisciplinary Task Forces to design objectives with measurable outcomes for the specific priorities. Meredith launched its new long-range strategic planning initiative in Summer 2004 with the appointment of the VISION 2010 Strategic Planning Committee. A timeline and communication plan were developed to ensure that the Meredith community would be informed about and involved in the discussions all along the way.

On December 1, the Vision 2010 Committee shared with the Meredith community the priorities and appointed six task forces to develop strategies for reaching the goals. The Task Forces submitted their reports to the Committee in May 2005. A draft of the Vision 2010 Plan was shared with the Trustees in June, with faculty and staff in July, and with student and alumnae leadership in August. Comments and suggestions were invited in August and September. A final plan was then produced and submitted to the Board of Trustees. It was approved by the Board in October 2005.

Since October 2005, implementation of the strategic plan has begun. Senior administrators have been assigned the responsibility for ensuring that all of the initiatives are addressed and implemented. Strategic initiatives have been used in preparing the 2006-07 college budget.

Vision 2010 - Assessment

President Hartford presented the first assessment report and a projected timeline for implementation of various goals to the Board of Trustees at its June 2006 meeting. She presented an updated report to faculty, staff, and student leaders in her State of the College address in August. The Board received a second report in March 2007, and President Hartford presented the updated report to the college community in August 2007. Meredith's institutional goals for 2007-08 are directly linked to the Vision 2010 plan.

Initiative 2000 Strategic Plan

The planning process in Meredith's previous strategic plan began in 1996, when the Meredith College Board of Trustees authorized Initiative 2000 , a comprehensive and inclusive effort that engaged all campus divisions and departments, as well as alumnae, students and trustees.  Out of this intensive self-study came ten institutional priorities, which were presented to the Board of Trustees in 1998.  The Board appointed six of its members to a Long-Range Planning Committee to study and prioritize the plans. In 1999, the Board accepted and endorsed the Initiative 2000 report as the direction for Meredith College as part of the final major recommendations of its Long-Range Planning Committee.

Each year the President of the College reports to the Board on its final major recommendations, which included five key goals that have been used extensively in budgeting.  In June 2003, the Trustees received a status report on all ten institutional priorities that were part of the I-2000 strategic planning recommendations.
