OUTCOMES – EDUCATING WOMEN TO EXCEL
GRADUATION RATES Meredith College is pleased to report graduation statistics for the students who entered as full-time, first-time freshmen in Fall 1999. In compliance with the Student Right-to-Know (SRTK) Act of 1990, the report reflects the percentage of students who complete within six years (150% of the normal time to completion). However, it is significant to note that most Meredith graduates earn their baccalaureate degrees within the traditional four-year period. Meredith has also chosen to report its five-year average graduation rates for full-time, first-time students.
Nineteen students in the Fall 1999 cohort (4.2%) graduated from Meredith in fewer than four years. Two of the full-time, first-time students who began in Fall 1999 were still enrolled at Meredith in Fall 2005, continuing to work toward a degree. The overall graduation rate for minority and international students in this cohort was 87.5%. Of the students who withdrew from Meredith, at least 81.5% are known to have continued their education at other colleges and universities. To give Meredith’s outcomes perspective, the following national averages were reported in 2001 as five-year graduation rates at institutions awarding Bachelor’s degrees, based on data collected by the American College Test (ACT).
The more selective an institution is, the higher the graduation rate tends to be on average. In 2001, the average ran from 42.0% for private institutions having open admission to 80.6% for private institutions with highly selective admission. The mean for selective private institutions was 63.8%. Therefore, Meredith’s four-year running average of 66.9% graduating in five years is a strong one. Meredith College admits qualified women students without regard to race, creed, national or ethnic origin, age, sexual orientation or disability.
