College Goals 2006-07

Vision 2010 has set the long-term goals for Meredith College.  Using this strategic plan as our guide, we will:

  • Foster an academic climate that is rigorous, engaging, personal, and transformative with specific programs that focus on internationalization and leadership
    • Work with Faculty Council to develop specific strategies to strengthen the academic climate
    • Complete the examination of the J-term; committee recommendations due by the end of spring semester
    • Define an “internationalized” course and collect data on the number of such courses currently available at Meredith College
    • Complete plans to increase resources for the study abroad program in time for its inclusion in the budgeting process
    • Increase targeted recruitment, including scholarships for international students
    • Continue with support for faculty and staff to travel outside the U.S.
    • Complete the planning for the Institute for Women’s Leadership in time for its inclusion in the budgeting process
  • Assure a strong student body, an outstanding faculty and staff, a stimulating environment for learning and living, and an appropriate array of high quality academic offerings
    • Increase support for student recruitment to make possible
      • An increase in the number of first-time freshmen
      • An increase in the number of out-of-state students
      • An increase in the diversity of students
    • Increase support for financial aid to
      • Meet a higher percentage of documented financial need for academically well-qualified students
      • Support meritorious students
    • Develop plan to increase the percentage of student credit hours taught by full-time faculty
    • Identify priorities for adding staff to ensure excellent customer service, efficient operations, and high quality facilities maintenance
    • Increase support for retention efforts
    • Develop next steps to bring Meredith faculty and staff closer to median salaries of peer institutions in time for its inclusion in the budgeting process
    • Use unrestricted gifts to increase staff development opportunities
    • Continue to support the work of the Diversity Council
    • Charge SGA and Student Activities to develop additional weekend programming
    • Use entrance to USA South athletic conference to increase support for varsity athletics
    • Examine opportunity to use the Campus Health Service to increase wellness programming and urgent care for faculty and staff
    • Finish work on apartment-style housing proposal to bring to the Board of Trustees for their October meeting
    • Focus attention on athletic, recreation and exercise sports science facilities as Meredith’s next high priority facility renovation
    • Install elevator in Joyner
    • Purchase and install new campus card system
    • Develop plan for a central event management office
    • Continue the work of the academic program review committee
  • Achieve greater recognition for the College
    • Continue work with JKG (Generation) to focus the efforts of Vision 2010 to create more regional and national recognition of the College
    • Continue to coordinate major speakers and publicize these events locally/regionally
    • Continue to build on the annual theme (2006  The Status of Women:  Our Future, Our Responsibility)
    • Increase contact with guidance counselors, through visits to campus and outreach in communities
    • Continue to seek alumnae assistance in student recruitment
    • Update 15 additional academic websites
  • Successfully complete Campaign for Meredith College
