Religion and Philosophy Programs of Study
The Department of Religion and Philosophy offers a major in religion as well as minors in religion and philosophy.
The department seeks to assist students preparing for graduate study and/or a career. A major in religion provides a foundation and personal depth that can lead to a variety of fulfilling professional options. Many students combine a major in religion with a second major or licensure in a professionally-oriented field of study.
Three courses chosen from REL 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 - 9 hrs.
REL 201 Methods of Study of Religion -3 hrs.
Two courses at the 200 level - 6 hrs.
Three courses at the 300–400 level - 9 hrs.
REL 497 Senior Seminar - 3 hrs.
At least one course elected must be a course that focuses on a non-western/eastern religious tradition. Courses that meet this criteria include REL 102, REL 251, REL 252 and REL 351.
In addition the department may designate REL 200 and 400 as meeting this requirement when the topic is appropriate.
Additionally, at least one course in philosophy is recommended.
MINORS IN RELIGION AND PHILOSOPHY
Minor in Religion (18 hours)
Two 100 Level Courses - 6 hrs.
One 200 Level Course - 3 hrs.
One 300 Level Course - 3 hrs.
Two electives above the 100 level - 6 hrs.
At least one course must focus on a non-western/eastern religious tradition. Courses that meet this criteria include REL 102, REL 251, REL 252 and REL 351.
In addition the department may designate REL 200 and REL 400 as meeting this requirement when the topic is appropriate.

PHI 201 Introduction to Philosophy - 3 hrs.
PHI 251 Ancient Greek Philosophy - 3 hrs.
PHI 252 Modern Philosophy - 3 hrs.
