Psychology Events
Psychology Week is sponsored by the Psychology Club and is usually held early in the autumn of each year. The purpose is to "share interesting aspects of what psychology is and can be with everyone." Every evening for a week a special program is presented in the auditorium of the psychology building, Ledford Hall. Some of these are presentations by psychologists on important topics. Some are audience participation programs. Guests and visitors are welcome. Some are panel presentations by former students.
The Special Populations Dance is sponsored by the Psychology Club and is held late in the autumn of each year. About 20 years ago students in the Psychology Club decided to throw a party for adults with special characteristics in the greater Raleigh area. Everyone had such a good time that we have continued this event ever since. It is now held in the Meredith Gymnasium which is decorated very much like a "senior prom," with a different theme each year. We have food. We have good music. But most of all we have good people and a good time.
The Carolinas Psychology Conference (CPC) is sponsored by the Department of Psychology at Meredith College and by the Department of Psychology at North Carolina State University. The Carolinas Conference is an psychology convention that gives undergraduate students an opportunity to present the research they have been working on to other students and faculty members with similar interests in a comfortable but professional setting. Many future psychologists make their first research presentations at the CPC.
The Carolinas Psychology Conference began at Meredith College in 1976 and, in partnership with the Department of Psychology at North Carolina State University, has grown to become one of the largest events of its kind in the country. In 2006 for example, a typical year, over 300 people from 26 colleges and universities in 14 states came to Meredith College to attend the CPC. The Carolinas Conference is usually held on a weekend in April and its location alternates between the Meredith and NCSU campus.
