Economic Challenge

A student fills out a formLike most institutions, Meredith College experienced challenges in 2009 as a result of the global recession. The administration and the Board of Trustees, along with the College Budget Committee, deans and departments, worked together to ensure Meredith's long-term financial strength and sustainability. Meredith added $1.3 million in funding to financial assistance in order to support students affected by the economic downturn. While budget cuts were necessary in 2009, Meredith successfully maintained a student-to-faculty ratio below 12:1 and an average class size of 16. Updates were regularly shared through a budget planning web site, email messages and campus meetings.
