This academic year, Meredith College has launched the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Presidential Lecture Series, which will bring to campus a rich mix of speakers, exhibitions and performances designed to enhance a yearly theme. The inaugural theme is "Our World, Our Responsibility: Contributing to Positive Change Around the Globe," which will shape events and programs throughout the year on the Meredith campus.
The College has a longstanding tradition of supporting students, faculty and staff in their work to improve the life of others. The "Our World, Our Responsibility" theme aims to provoke campus-wide discussion on issues of global importance, and encourage people to develop their own ways to address these issues in their communities.
The summer reading program selection was the first project to relate to the "Our World, Our Responsibility" theme. The book, Telling Tales, is a collection of contemporary world fiction edited by Nobel Prize winner Nadine Gordimer. The proceeds from the sale of the book support AIDS/HIV preventative education and medical treatment throughout the world.
From campus events to relief efforts around the world, the Meredith community works together to raise awareness of global issues while educating the next generation of global citizens.
Here are just some of the ways Meredith students, faculty and staff are contributing to positive change both locally and around the world.
