What is Wellness?

According to the World Health Organization, wellness is "...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

At Meredith, wellness is an active process for you to become aware of and make positive choices toward a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. You have the ability to participate in physical activities, form relationships that expand and strengthen your body, mind, and soul, and promote strong connections to our community and the environment.

The Working on Wellness (WOW) program goal is to provide programming that assists participants in identifying their current health risk status, opportunities for risk reduction, programming for improvements, and coaching for the implementation of positive lifestyle change.

Dimensions of Wellness

Wellness is a dynamic process of change and growth. There are many interrelated dimensions of wellness:

  • physical
  • emotional
  • spiritual
  • community
  • environmental
  • occupational—or what we call academic/career.

Each dimension is equally vital in the pursuit of your optimum health.
