The 1098-T form is an annual statement that reports the amount billed during the previous calendar year. The purpose of the form is to assist in determining eligibility for certain education-related tax credits under the US Treasury Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. Meredith College reports this information directly to the IRS; therefore, the 1098-T is for information only and does not need to be attached to a tax return.
Forms are are mailed each year after January 31 from the Accounting Office. Current students may also log in to WebAdvisor and elect an electronic form. Students must have a valid social security number and address on file in the Regiatrar's Office by December 31 of the tax year in order for a 1098-T to be issued.
Understanding your 1098-T:
Institutions may report either payments received during the calendar year in box 1 OR amounts billed during the calendar year in box 2. Meredith College reports the amounts billed in box 2: box 1 will always be blank. Box 2 may represent an amount other than the amount actually paid. Please contact your tax preparer for questions regarding credit eligibility.

Form 1099-MISC is a reporting of miscellaneous income or contract services paid to individuals and organizations receiving non-employee compensation. This form is available each year after January 31 from the Accounting Office. Additionally, we may request a new W-9 each year, or as needed or required by federal regulations.
