Second Annual Event Honors Grandparents of Students
By Jean Gambrill
On Friday, April 23, 180 grandparents, current students, and special guests attended the Grandparents’ Luncheon on campus.
The Meredith College Student Ambassadors welcomed everyone to the event and introduced the keynote speaker, Jacque Lawrence Huber, ‘78, doll curator for the Meredith College Margaret Bright Doll Collection. Huber shared information about the class doll tradition, including how the dolls are influenced by their time period and their important role as visual representations of Meredith’s history.
Katie Nagel, ’10, and Virginia Claire Tharrington, ’10, student ambassadors and two of the Class of 2010 Doll Co-Chairs, followed Huber’s presentation by introducing their class doll. After the luncheon, the guests were invited to view the Margaret Bright Gallery of Class Dolls, located on the third floor of Johnson Hall's Bryan Rotunda.
The Parents’ Fund Board helped to sponsor the event and is pleased with the continued increasing interest in this luncheon. The Parents’ Fund is a component of The Meredith Fund.
If you know of a grandparent who would like to be invited to a future grandparents’ event , please send the mailing address to parentsfund@meredith.edu or call Jane Mitchell, director of The Parents’ Fund, at x8060.
