CALL FOR ENTRIES FROM CASE PROFESSORS OF THE YEAR PROGRAM

The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) is currently accepting nominations for the 2002 U.S. Professors of the Year program, which recognizes outstanding undergraduate teachers.

According to program organizers, the Professor of the Year program “offers an excellent opportunity to celebrate and publicize the contributions made by extraordinary undergraduate educators at campuses throughout the United States.”

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching will select a winner from each of four categories: baccalaureate colleagues; community colleges; master’s universities and colleges; and doctoral and research universities.

The four national winners receive a $5,000 cash prize and an invitation to the awards luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, DC in November. Provided there are sufficient entries, CASE will announce Professors of the Year in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Nominations may be submitted online at www.case.org/poy. The processing fee for nominations submitted online is $75; the fee for nominations submitted on paper is $95. A program brochure, in PDF format, with the entry guidelines and the entry form is available at the same Web site. Entries are due by Friday, April 26, 2002. Visit www.case.org/poy for more information.

NEW SUMMER HOURS AND STAFF HOLIDAYS ANNOUNCED

The Senior Management Team recently announced the summer hours for 2002, and upcoming changes to the vacation days for staff.

Meredith College offices will close at noon on Fridays from May 20 through July 29. This is a change that represents two additional weeks of early closing than in the past.

In addition to the summer closing, SMT also announced additions to the staff vacation policy, which will take effect in the 2002-03 fiscal year. The College will close on the Friday of students’ spring break (March 14, 2003) and staff members may now take a vacation day in honor of their birthdays. This extra vacation day can be taken on any day chosen by the employee, in consultation with his/her supervisor.

“These actions are designed to increase benefits to Meredith staff, in recognition of their hard work and dedicated service,” said President Maureen Hartford.

The Staff Affairs Committee will also review Meredith’s vacation policy to determine its equity.
