Heidi Fletcher, associate director of admissions,
recently presented Ethics in College Admissions
at a meeting of the North Carolina School Counselor Association.
One hundred and nine students from five states attended
Merediths most recent Open Day. Students had
the opportunity to talk to faculty/staff, meet current students,
observe a class, and take a tour of the new science and mathematics

Mary Shannon Johnstone, assistant professor
of art, received a Best of Competition award for her work
in the North Carolina Photographers Annual Exhibition, held
in the Weems Gallery in November 2002. Photographs by Meredith
College students Laura Williams, Shaimaa Diraz, Megan Hilton
and Mary Schreier were also included in the exhibition.
Two Meredith staff members received awards from the
North Carolina College Personnel Association (NCCPA). Chrissie
Bumgardner, co-director of First Year Experience, won
the Award for Outstanding Professional Contribution for her
work in initiating new programs for first-year students at
Meredith and the founding of the First Year Experience Consortium
for NCCPA. Nikki Curliss, assistant director of student
activities and leadership development, won the Outstanding
Committee Member Award.
Security Officer Kathy Weinel was selected as
the Campus Police Officer of the Year for 2002. This award
was decided by a vote of her peers. Officer Weinel was selected
as a result of her continuing dedication to the students and
the College. Officer Weinel has been employed as a security
officer with Campus Police since March 2000.
Security Sergeant Officer Robert Luedtke has
been selected as the Campus Police Supervisor of the Year
for 2002. Sergeant Luedtke was selected for his outstanding
performance as supervisor of the night weekend shift. Sergeant
Luedtke has been employed with Campus Police since December
1999.
