Meredith Vincent has been named the new head coach of the Avenging Angel tennis program, Meredith College Director of Athletics Jackie Myers announced on August 1. Vincent joins the athletics team after serving seven seasons on staff with the Emory University women's tennis program.
"I would like to thank Jackie Myers for giving me this opportunity to serve as head women's tennis coach at Meredith College," said Vincent. "I am extremely honored and excited to be a part of the Meredith family. The combination of academics, athletics and the sense of community at Meredith was what really attracted me to this coaching opportunity."
Vincent was named associate coach of the Emory Eagles women's tennis program in July 2011. Just one year removed from her senior season playing with the NCAA Division I Ohio State Buckeyes, Vincent joined the Emory staff in the Fall of 2006.
During her seven seasons with the Eagles, Vincent helped the team to five conference championships and six trips to the NCAA Division III tournament, including a second-place finish in 2010 and 2013, third-place finishes in 2009, 2011 and 2012, and a quarterfinal finish in 2008. In addition Emory claimed the 2010 and 2011 ITA National Indoor Championships during her tenure with the program.
Vincent earned numerous coaching accolades while in Decatur, Georgia. She was recognized as the Atlantic South Region's Assistant Coach of the Year in both 2009 and 2010, and has been named part of the University Athletic Association Coaching Staff of the Year on four occasions.
"Two things in particular excite me about Meredith joining our team," said Myers. "First is her connection to the College as the daughter of an alumna. This institution is one that will truly benefit from her knowledge of our traditions both in and out of the classroom.
"Second is her experience with a high caliber program like Emory. I was impressed by the team as I observed them compete during the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Meredith in 2012, and we look forward to new success under her direction."
Vincent also brings four years of Division I playing experience to Meredith. Beginning in 2001, she played two seasons for Virginia Tech before transferring to Ohio State to complete her eligibility. During her senior year with the Buckeyes, Vincent played mostly No. 3 and No. 4 singles, while leading the No. 1 doubles pair. Her expertise in doubles play will be a focus with the Avenging Angels.
"I eagerly look forward to bringing my vision to the Avenging Angels tennis program so that we can continue to strive to new heights as a team and as individuals," said Vincent.
