USA South Lacrosse Champs!

The Meredith College lacrosse Avenging Angels captured the program’s fourth consecutive USA South Tournament Championship during the league’s Spring Festival in LaGrange, Georgia, 10 days ago. Midfielder Holly Hite was named the tournament Most Valuable Player with five others joining her on the All-Tournament team. The Angels now await the NCAA selection committee’s announcement of where and with whom the team will battle in first round tournament action May 13. Stay tuned for details.

With an undefeated conference record and just one loss overall, eight Meredith lacrosse players were recognized with end-of-season honors. Junior standout Carlee Joseph earned her second consecutive USA South Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year honor and became the first conference lacrosse player to earn two such awards after garnering the league’s Rookie of the Year honor.

Head softball coach Kim Scavone earned her second USA South Softball Coach of the Year honor, and Sarah Watson and Haley Ervin collected All-Conference first team selections. Four softball players were recognized with conference awards. The Avenging Angels captured the program’s first USA South East Division Regular Season title this spring.

The tennis team placed third in East Division regular season standings with Cailin Goff, Gillian Emerson, and Emily Wilkinson earning USA South recognition.

Meredith track & field wrapped up the 2017 outdoor season at the Atlantic Independent Championship meet at the Durham County Memorial Stadium April 20. Current USA South members Covenant, Methodist, and Piedmont joined Meredith, while Pfeiffer, new to the conference next year and transitioning from NCAA Division II to III, along with Division III Gallaudet from Washington, D.C., also participated. Megan Evans won the women’s 10,000 meter run to jumpstart the event, and several others earned medals for top-three performances on the day. Essence Thomas collected third place in the 100m and 200m sprints, and Demonica Stanley scored the third-best mark in the javelin, Meredith’s newest field event.

Golf Tournament Postponed
The 19th Annual Meredith Golf Classic was rescheduled for Monday, May 8, at Brier Creek Country Club, because of heavy rain on the original date.
