Library Exhibit Commemorates Shakespeare’s 450th Birthday
On April 23, 2014, the world will celebrate the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare. Meredith’s Carlyle Campbell Library offers an exhibit in honor of this Shakespearean anniversary. Featured are facsimile copies of the first published works, known as quartos and folios; accounts of notable Meredith productions of Shakespeare, including the first (Midsummer Night’s Dream in 1900); and dozens of filmed productions of Shakespeare’s plays now available from the library or the Department of English. The display also includes a host of memorabilia from bath toys to Band-Aids to busts and graphic novels and role-playing games and “choose your own adventure” versions of the plays. The exhibit is located in the entry of Carlyle Campbell Library.
