Ceramic Artist Peter Callas

Internationally respected ceramic artist Peter Callas will visit Meredith College on April 7. Callas will present a lecture followed by Q&A at 11 a.m. in Gaddy-Hamrick room 129, and from noon-5 p.m. he will be available for demonstrations and informal conversation in Gaddy-Hamrick room 131.
Callas spent many years in Japan working with multiple masters and Japan’s National Living Treasures. He also had a 30-year collaboration with Peter Voulkos, the most recognized ceramic artist of the 20th century. Callas is the guest of Meredith Assistant Professor of Art Warner Hyde.
“Peter is an engaging and exciting artist, and I hope the campus community will take advantage of this one of a kind opportunity,” Hyde said. Hyde and Callas have a joint show in Charlotte, N.C., at the Elder Gallery. The show, titled Respect opens on April 4 and runs through April 26.
Meredith Ensemble Theatre presents Little Shop of Horrors by Howard Ashman

Meredith International Association’s annual International Fashion and Cultural Show will include cultural performances of dance and song, and a showcase of different outfits from around the world. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

The Meredith College Dance program, which was recently selected for the American College Dance Festival Mid-Atlantic Regional Gala, will present DanceWorks, its annual spring showcase, April 11-13, 2014. Program A will feature members of the Freshmen Dance Ensemble, emerging and mainstage student choreographers, and faculty work by Carol Finley, director of Meredith’s dance program. Program B will feature emerging and mainstage student choreographers, faculty work by Eleanor Smith, and guest artist work by Courtney Greer. The gala will be works from both programs selected by a panel of alumnae dance professionals.
Tickets: Free admission for Meredith students, faculty and staff, $10 general admission, $5 students/seniors.
