Summer Research Partnership Reception Held

Undergraduate Research officially kicked off the Summer Research Partnership with a welcome reception for students participating in the Meredith College-Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy (MC-WYWLA) partnership.

Meredith student researchers and their faculty mentors were present at the reception, as well as five of the nine WYWLA student interns, and two faculty members from the WYWLA Early College program.

There are 20 students working on nine projects funded by the Jessie Ball duPont Religious, Charitable, and Educational Fund.  The overall total funding for these projects is $37,600.  The Shepard K. Halsch Endowment for Undergraduate Research will support 11 students working on 7 projects, for a total funding amount of $28,312.

Undergraduate Research received a record number of applications this year for the Summer Research Partnership. 55 students from 13 different academic departments applied for research funding, which made the vetting process for applications highly competitive.  Undergraduate Research was able to support a total of 31 students for this year’s summer partnership.  The total number of applicants for this year’s partnership demonstrates a clear need for additional funding in order to support the increasing demand in our student population’s research endeavors.
