Students Share Their Favorite Places in Raleigh

Meredith College’s location in Raleigh, which is North Carolina’s capital city and home to thousands of other college students, plays a big part in lives of our students and many of our alumnae. In fact, a recent survey ranked Raleigh as the fourth best city in the country for young people to start careers.

As part of our summer series of student advice, Meredith’s Office of Admissions asked a group of rising sophomores, juniors and seniors what they like most about Raleigh.

“My favorite thing about Raleigh is the fact it is a large town and there is always something to do. It's nice to have a smaller community like Meredith nestled in the big city. Also, there are other colleges in the area so it gives you an opportunity to meet many new faces!” —Brittany Murray, ’13

“It has something for everyone. The shopping is great, the restaurants are endless and sporting events are always happening.” —Jade Rice, ’13

“There is so much to do. I never get bored.” —Coley Ledford, ’13

“My favorite thing about Raleigh is that there is always something to do. There’s the mall, sporting events, concerts and plenty of coffee shops and burger joints to hang out in!” –Rebecca Wright, ’12

“My favorite thing about Raleigh is that you are no more than five minutes away from everything you need. I come from a small town so that is a really different concept for me.” —Angel Jackson, ’13

“I love Raleigh because there are so many things to do if you actually get out and explore. There are also different festivals and other celebrations year-round that you can go to. And, if you want to get involved in the community, there are many opportunities to take advantage of.” —Cristina Rivera, ’14

“The public transportation. Without a car and a great desire to be out and about, the bus system was really a big help. Now I know how to get where I want to go or how to figure it out. Even when I get my car on campus, I’ll have an alternative.”—Onisha Walker, ’14

“Downtown. It is so beautiful there and there are a lot of cute little shops. Also, I love the public transportation that is available because it makes being in Raleigh without a car so much better.” —Dayanna Hernandez, ’14

“Just to name a few things that I love about Raleigh: Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops, $1.50 movie theater on Blue Ridge, three malls that are perfect for people watching and are only fifteen minutes away, the Raulston arboretum down the street, the NC Museum of Art, Snoopy's Hotdogs, and how clean and safe it is in downtown Raleigh.” – Paisely Murff, ’13

For this series, we’ll post responses to questions about the Meredith experience, academics and campus life at least once per week throughout the summer.

Next question: “What’s your favorite place on campus?”
