As part of our summer series of student advice, Meredith’s Office of Admissions asked a group of rising sophomores, juniors and seniors to talk about an important aspect of residence life – meeting your roommate.
Some students choose to room with friends from high school, or with students they met at Meredith events. Others are assigned by Meredith’s Office of Residence Life. This week, we asked students to share their roommate experience.
•“I met my roommate through the soccer coach who paired us up since we were both freshman soccer players.” – Megan Amanatides, ’15
•“I sort of knew my roommate before arriving here at Meredith. We did not pick each other, we both did the lottery, but we had met at Scholarship Weekend a couple of months before we moved in. So yes, we knew each other, but not well.”—Elizabeth Oates, ’13
•“I did not personally know my roommate before arriving. I had met her once at a Meredith summer event, looked at her Facebook roommate survey, liked what I saw, and I went for it! I took a big leap of faith and I am so glad I did. Now I love her to death and have so many memories that I will never forget.”—Hannah Thornton, ’14
•“I had met my roommate through a mutual friend/Facebook.” –Mary Rawls, ’13
•“My roommate and I went to the same high-school. We had taken a few dance classes and an English class together, and had decided to room together when we found out we were both attending Meredith. I was lucky – I had the best roommate experience my freshman year. My roommate was great, and we became very close.” –Melissa de Leon, ’14
•“I did not know my roommate before coming to Meredith, I went with the pot luck option, but it worked out great for us! We got along really well and not knowing each other let us both learn more about different parts of the state.”—Angel Jackson, ’13
•“I met my freshman year roommate at Experience Meredith briefly. Before that, we talked on Facebook after meeting through the Class of 2013 group.”--Chloë Williams ‘13
•“We actually met online. Since we knew early on that we wanted to room together, we started to get to know each other early and plan who would bring what.”—Shelby Wilson, ’14
•“We met on Facebook and we talked a little over the summer. It was a little weird when we first moved in, but pretty soon, things got into a flow, and we became best friends. I love her!”—Sara Owens, ’15
•“I did not know my roommate; however, we had a mutual friend that introduced us on Facebook and we chose each other instead of doing random assignment. My roommate experience turned out great, and we are rooming together again next year!,”—Amanda Hall ’15
•“We met over the Facebook group for our class and so we had talked a little that way and we met in person at Experience Meredith. We also went to each other's houses over the summer for almost a week each, which was great because we got to see where the other came from and her friend and family experiences. I highly suggest trying to meet before move in day if possible.” –Rebecca Jernigan, ’13
