Student Experience: How Did You Meet Your Roommate?
As part of our summer series of student advice, Meredith’s Office of Admissions asked a group of recent graduates and returning students to share helpful advice for the incoming class. For this installment, students discuss how they met their roommates.
“I went to high school with my roommate, but we didn’t become friends until our senior year when we found out we both wanted to go to Meredith. We had a great experience rooming together our freshman year—in fact, when we graduate in 2014 we will have roomed together all four years!”—Jordan Cone, ’14
“I had met my roommate once at a Meredith summer event, looked at her Facebook roommate survey, liked what I saw, and I went for it! I took a big leap of faith and I am so glad I did. Now I have so many memories that I will never forget.”—Hannah Thornton, ’14
“I met my roommate through a mutual friend. We met in Raleigh during the summer to go shopping but didn’t know each other extremely. It worked out perfectly, and our whole suite lived together for two years. I believe there is as much of a chance of a roommate situation not working out if you know the person or if you don’t know the person. It will all work out in the end!”— Alexis Trell, ’15
“We met on a website designed to match students up based on what they had in common and how compatible they may be as roommates.”— Shelby Wilson, ’14
“I actually met my roommate through the class of 2015 Facebook group. I messaged her saying that I was still looking for a roommate and we instantly hit it off. She and I met two times before school started to get to know each other over lunch. The weekend before we both moved in, our mothers both joined us for lunch.” —Laura Knott,’15
“Before moving in, my roommate and I had met once. We met with our parents to do some shopping for our room. We had a mutual friend and that friend ended up being our suitemate!”— Jordan Capps, ’16.
