Meredith College will hold its spring commencement exercises on Sunday, May 10 at 10 a.m. in McIver Amphitheater. (Rain location: Dorton Arena)
North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Sarah Parker will deliver the address. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Parker attended Meredith College from 1960-62 before earning her undergraduate and law degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She served as an attorney in private practice for 15 years before being appointed to the N.C. Court of Appeals in 1984. She served on the Court of Appeals until 1993 when she joined the N.C. Supreme Court. In 2006, Parker was appointed chief justice of the N.C. Supreme Court.
Other Commencement Weekend Events
As part of commencement weekend, Meredith will hold a baccalaureate service on Saturday, May 9 at 11 a.m. in the courtyard near Belk Dining Hall. The speaker will be Donna Fowler-Marchant, pastor at Cotton United Methodist Church in Hope Mills, N.C. Fowler-Marchant is a 1989 graduate of Meredith College, who also served as Meredith’s associate campus minister from 1993-95.
Meredith’s traditional Class Day activities will also be held on May 9 at 4 p.m. in McIver Amphitheater.
