Solar Eclipse Viewing at SMB

Solar Eclipse Viewing at SMB

The Meredith community is invited to a solar eclipse viewing event on Monday, August 21 from 1-4 pm at the Pleiades Observation deck on the 3rd floor of SMB.

The event is weather-permitting and will include eclipse questions/answers/discussions.  The partial eclipse will occur from 1:16 to 4:06, with the maximum occultation (about 90%) occurring at 2:44 pm.

Friends and family members are invited to attend.  Two hundred NASA-approved viewing glasses will be provided to attendees on a first-come basis, but in case of high attendance, please share the glasses or bring your own if you have them. Because of high demand, we ask that glasses not be taken from the observation deck during the event or requested in advance of the event. In addition to the viewing glasses, there will be a solar-filtered telescope tracking the sun and cardboard box-projectors at the event.

Please contact Bill Schmidt (schmidtw@meredith.edu) with any questions.

NASA Feed in Library: In addition to the Observation deck viewing, Carlyle Campbell Library will be projecting NASA's livefeed of the eclipse. The projection will be on the library's main floor near the Media Services desk.
