“Collective Wisdom: Senior Exhibition Fall 2012” opens in the Frankie G. Weems Art Gallery on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 with an opening reception from 2-4 p.m. The exhibition continues through December 3, 2012.
The exhibition highlights the portfolios of three Meredith College senior art students: Margaret Jennette, Anna Greenwood and Kristen Gallagher.
Works in the show range from graphic design to photography and from collage to installation sculptures. Each artist presents her distinct artistic voice and vision through her chosen media. While three visions are presented, there are common ties between the artists and their works: each woman converses with and handles memory, fear and internal dialogue. The exhibition seeks to present the strongest work of each student while also exploring the individual themes each artist uses. Through their work, the artists have pushed their media to new personal and professional heights.
Though connected with threads of collective feelings, each artist approaches her work distinctly: Jennette’s functional and expressionistic aesthetic informs both her design and photographic work. Greenwood’s whimsical sensibility imbues her work with dark humor. Gallagher’s work evokes fragility and juxtaposes organic materials to create metaphorical relationships.
Each student will earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Jennette is earning a B.A. in graphic design with minors in photography and studio art. Greenwood is earning a B.A. in studio art with minors in photography and music. Gallagher is earning a B.A. in museum studies and a minor in art history.
An artist gallery talk is scheduled for November 27 at 5:30 p.m.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, 2-5 p.m. For more information, contact the Meredith College Art Department at (919) 760-8332.
