Rosemary Radford Ruether Lecture March 24

Theologian Rosemary Radford Ruether will present a lecture on lecture on “Ecofeminist Philosophy, Theology and Ethics: A Comparative Approach” on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 4 p.m. in Meredith College’s Jones Chapel.

Ruether is an internationally acclaimed church historian, theologian, writer and teacher specializing in the area of women and religion. She has served on the faculty of Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, Northwestern University and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Calif.

Ruether has written more than 40 books and 125 scholarly articles, and she has edited numerous others texts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in religion and philosophy from Scripps College, and an M.A. and a Ph. D. from Claremont Graduate School in classics and patristics. She has received 10 honorary doctorates from universities in the United States, Scotland and Sweden. She has been a regular columnist for the “National Catholic Reporter” and a contributing editor for “Conscience.”

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a public reception in the Chapel Commons Room. Books will be available for purchase and Ruether will offer a book signing.

Ruether’s lecture is sponsored by Meredith College’s Mary Stowe Gullick Lecture Fund, the Center for Women, Ethics and Public Life, and the Women’s Studies Program.
