On Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, Meredith College will hold a panel discussion --“What’s the Rap on Women?”--examining issues related to women in the lyrics of rap music.
The panel discussion will be held at 6 p.m. in Belk Dining Hall. Moderated by Jade Rice, chair of the Meredith Student Life Committee, the event will feature student and faculty speakers and a local advocate for women.
Panelists will include Apiffany Gaither, chair, Campus Activities Board; Bethany Schneider, chair, Sizzlin’ September Concert; Daniel Green, musician and chair, Meredith College Diversity Council; Rebecca Duncan, professor of English; Doug Spero, associate professor of mass communication; and Tracy Wright, representative, N.C. Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the dialogue following brief remarks by each speaker.
The "What's the Rap on Women?" panel discussion will count as an academic/cultural event for students needing that General Education designation.
This event is being sponsored by the Student Life Committee, the Campus Activities Board and the Vice President for College Programs in connection with “Critical Thinking for Critical Times,” the college-wide theme for 2010-11.
