One Billion Rising, sponsored by InterAct, InterPlay, Black Box Dance Theater and Meredith College, will take place on February 14, 2013, at 4 p.m. in McIver Amphitheater.
One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime.
One billion women violated is an atrocity.
One billion women dancing is a revolution.
V-Day refuses to watch as more than one billion women experience violence. V-Day is going further now, saying no more.
In advance of V-Day's 15th anniversary, join V-Day and One Billion Rising to SAY NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS. ONE BILLION women and those who love them are invited to walk out, dance, rise up and demand an end to this violence. On February 14, 2013, we will move the earth, activating women and men to dance across every country. The celebration of One Billion Rising will be a WORLD HAPPENING.
Meredith College Professor of Dance Sherry Shapiro has been working as the project director for the organization Dance and the Child International (daCi), to support the efforts of "One Billion Rising." As project director for daCi, Shapiro has organized members of Dance and the Child International from across the globe, including dancers from New Zealand, Taipei, Hong Kong, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Croatia, Canada and the U.S., in using dance as a way of supporting the efforts to raise awareness of stopping violence against girls and women.
